Everything you type into the calculators — dates of birth, benefit amounts, account balances, income, filing status — stays on your device. In fact it is not saved anywhere at all, not even on the phone: the figures exist while the app is open and are gone when you close it. Nothing is uploaded, backed up to us, or shared.
The only things the app does keep on your device are your language setting, whether you have seen the intro, and a count of how many questions you have asked. Deleting the app removes them.
When, and only when, you use Explain, the app sends to our server:
Our server passes the request to Anthropic, which produces the answer, and streams it back to you. We do not log, store, or retain your questions, the answers, or the figures. Anthropic processes the request under its own privacy policy.
It is a random value created on your device (UUID) and stored
there. It is not a device identifier, an advertising identifier, or
anything tied to you, your Apple Account, or your phone. Deleting and
reinstalling the app produces a different one.
It exists for one reason: to count how many questions have been asked in a day, so the service is not overwhelmed. On our side it is stored only as a number against that identifier, and it is deleted automatically after 48 hours.
Purchases are handled by Apple and by RevenueCat, which manages the receipt so your purchase is recognised on your devices. We never see your payment details. RevenueCat's handling is covered by its privacy policy.
The married-couple calculator ends with an optional form asking for your name, email, state, a rough savings range, and whether either of you has a pension. It exists so a written summary of your survivor gap can be sent to you, and so the person sending it knows whether he is licensed in your state.
Filling it in sends those answers together with the figures shown on that screen. That is the only place on this site where anything you enter leaves your browser, and it happens only when you press the button — the calculators themselves never send anything, whether you use the form or not.
What is submitted goes to our own Cloudflare account and to the operator's email. It is not sold, not shared, and not added to any marketing list. It is deleted after 400 days. If you want it removed sooner, email support@rmdcalc.com and it will be.
How this is paid for. The operator is a licensed insurance producer. If you go on to buy a product through him, the insurer pays him a commission. The calculators are free either way, and submitting the form puts you under no obligation.
The website is served by Cloudflare, and like every web server it records the requests it answers: which page was asked for, roughly when, the country the request came from, and which site linked you here, if any. We look at that to find out whether anyone is finding the site at all.
That is a side effect of serving pages, not a script running in your browser. There are no cookies and no identifier that follows you between visits. It also contains nothing you typed into a calculator — those figures never leave your browser, so the server has never had them to record.
This app is for adults planning for retirement. It is not directed at children and we do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 13.
If this policy changes, the date at the top changes with it. Material changes will also be noted in the app's release notes.
